Hashimoto’s Disease 2

Fun fact: Thyroid hormones are a pain in the ass to take, because they need to be taken on an empty stomach. This means they are taken an hour before you eat breakfast.

Additional Fun fact: This means I will be getting either an hour less sleep, or taking the pill and then going back to sleep.

I’ve been taking the hormone for about 3 days now, and I haven’t noticed a difference yet, but that doesn’t mean anything because it’s only three days and it takes about 10-14 days before I’m really supposed to notice a difference.

Stay tuned for more in the saga of Emily and Hashimoto’s Disease, which is a very gripping drama I’m sure for all of you. (end sarcasm)

Hashimoto’s Disease

Remember how my immune system hates everything that produces pollen and the majority of food? for the two new people following me, i’m allergic to wheat and tree nuts and basically everything else.

I went to an endocrinologist today, and it turns out my immune system has been attacking my thyroid!

The diagnosis is Hashimoto’s Disease, which means I’ve always had a whacked-out thyroid and need to take thyroid hormones to get my biochemical shit together, because my thyroid will never work properly.

We’ll see how this plays out.

ONE YEAR DOWN.

I am done with my first year of college. My official grades are up, my GPA is a freaking fabulous 3.83, and I have the rest of the summer to decide if I want to go back to CSU or transfer elsewhere. It could go either way.

While I was moving out, my mother spotted my dalek and proved that she still doesn’t know the difference between a dalek and a TARDIS (my dad was a little bummed when he heard this).

Also while I was moving out, I learned that I accumulated wayyyy too much crap over the course of a year at college.

When I got back home, I proceeded to eat an entire bag of corn chips. And a pizza. And pudding. And a bagel. AND CRAB CAKES. my mommy and i made crab cakes with gluten-free crackers and they were fantastic.

It’s good to be back. I LOVE BEING ABLE TO EAT LIKE A PIG AND NOT LIVE OFF PEANUTS AND RICE CHIPS.

now if you don’t mind, there’s a gallon of mint chocolate chip ice cream in the freezer that is calling my name.

Comics: Philosophy & PracticeMay 18-20, 2012 at the University of Chicago
In a three-day conference featuring a range of events — lectures, conversations, panels, and workshops — cartoonists will come together at the University of Chicago, long a location of word-and-image study, to take stock of their own ground-breaking work and the future of comics.
They will explore comics autobiography and journalism, the current shape of the “graphic novel,” the power of hand-drawn images to shock and provoke, historical print culture, the narrative impact of comics style, and where and how today’s most exciting work is happening.
The first of its kind, this historic conference brings together 17 world-famous cartoonists whose work has defined contemporary comics. These internationally acclaimed figures have innovated the visual styles, genres, and formats that make comics popular and fascinating; they set the terms for the possibilities of the form.

According to the website this event is totally FREE to the public. Gonna attempt to make it out to Chicago for this!

Wayne’s World takes place in Aurora, Illinois, which is not too far from my hometown.
I’ll be home in 4 days and I’m super stoked and therefore will be reblogging all Chicago-suburbs related nonsense until then.
